Design and Installation
Best Management Practices in the Tahoe Basin are designed based on the amount of impervious surface runoff flowing into the treatment area and the capacity of the property’s soil to infiltrate water following the criteria of the BMP Ordinance’s design storm (1 inch of rain per hour).
BMP Design
Tahoe RCD Staff can meet with you on-site to help you design your BMPs and also provide you with many resources about BMP design, many of which are available on the BMP page and Tip Sheets Pages of our website and in our office.
Best Management Practices are often more simple than you think - we therefore encourage you to get started on your own!
To determine where you may need BMPs on your property download a list of BMP Self-Evaluation Guidelines
BMP Installation
Install your own BMPs
If you choose to install your own BMPs, the Tahoe RCD has many technical tip sheets that will help explain the installation of specific treatments.
Call 811 before you dig – Underground Service Alert must be contacted 2 days before any excavation to locate and mark underground utilities.
Hire a Contractor
If you prefer to hire someone to install your BMPs, you can download the Tahoe RCD's 2010 BMP Contractors’ List. All of the professionals on the list have attended the BMP Contractors' Workshop held each April.
Tahoe RCD staff is available to answer questions over the phone or on-site during the installation process.
